Where to eat

There are restaurants in Bosa for all tastes and probably more importantly, for all budgets. Choose from traditional Sardinian cuisine, contemporary Italian and European dishes or quick fix but very tasty Pizza to go. Our house is in the lower part of Bosa old town and therefore close to many charming Sardinian restaurants that will appeal to any holiday maker.

We’ve visited some, but not all, of the restaurants in Bosa, Sardinia. Below is a guide to the ones we’ve enjoyed, usually with two children in tow.

Cheap and cheerful Bosan eats

Pizza Al Taglio

Via Del Ginnasio

5 minutes walk from Dommu Asuletta, just off Piazza Gioberti (the square with the fountain), is this little gem of a takeaway. Always full of Sardinians, you’ll have to queue but it’s worth the wait – amazing pizza at an amazing price. You can take your pizza back to the house or eat al fresco sitting in the Piazza itself. It is only open in the Summer season.

Rosticceria

Via Alghero

Another good idea for a cheap meal is to buy a cooked chicken (pollo allo spiedo) from this friendly rosticceria tucked away on the tree-lined part of Via Alghero. Order the chicken in the morning along with potatoes and pick your lunch up at 1pm. It’s the Italian equivalent of a takeaway and a lazy way to enjoy Sunday lunch.

Pizza Margarita

Via Parpaglia

Take the road out of town (Via Alghero) and when you get to Piazza Dante, turn right. Continue up this road and you will find the pizzeria on your right.

Reasonably priced, with lots of tables outside, it is another favourite with the locals so can get very busy. It’s easy-going and the menu is straightforward so is excellent for families with young children.

Mid-range dining

La Pulce Rossa

Via Lungo Temo Amendola, 1 0785 375657

On the way to Bosa Marina. Off the beaten track but worth the stroll. We have been for lunch (quite a few times!) and they do the most wonderful pasta with seafood. Service is serious but nice and children are always welcome. If you want to taste really good Italian pasta, this is a great place to find it.

More expensive restaurants

Trattoria Sa Nassa

Via Lungo Temo, 13 0785 373024

Opposite the entrance to Bosa cathedral, this restaurant serves traditional Sardinian cuisine in a nice, clean setting. Really friendly, professional service with nothing too much trouble, we’d particularly recommend their locally-brewed Sardinian wine, which you can buy to take away for about 7 euros a litre.

Ristorante Borgo Sant’Ignazio

Beautiful little restaurant high up in the middle of Bosa’s Centro Storico (old town). There is no seating outside and it is a very quiet little restaurant so not particularly child friendly, although children are welcome. There is a fixed menu of traditional Sardinian food with some variations. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic meal.

Going vegetarian in Sardinia

Italy is one of the easiest countries to be a vegetarian in and Sardinia is no exception. You can eat well with a whole range of pizza, pasta and salad dishes as well as risotto, gnocchi and vegetable side dishes.

One note of caution, some Italians don’t think cooked meat like ham and salami really counts as meat so watch out for these items in your vegetarian meal or snack!
